The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission was right to enact modest restrictions on wolf hunting and trapping near Yellowstone National Park.

  • By doing so, they demonstrated to the public that it was taking a much needed step to protect wolves as a scientific and economic resource.
  • The loss of these wolves is crippling to the scientific study of wolves. When controversy about wolves arise, these studies are extremely valuable, especially since this research focused on an unexploited wolf population; this is no longer the case.
  • When visiting YNP to wolf-watch, people spend millions of their hard earned tourist dollars annually on hotels, stores, restaurants, etc.  in gateway communities of  Bozeman, Billings, Red Lodge, West Yellowstone, Livingston, Silver Gate, Cooke City, and Gardiner and these communities depend on this tourism. Healthy wolf populations generate significant revenue for the state and they continue to provide jobs even during these challenging economic times.
