Scientists’ Letter Alerts U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service that Wisconsin Is Misleading USFWS

Posted on

A letter submitted by nationally known wolf experts explains that Wisconsin’s misleading population estimates warrant federal oversight and possible emergency re-listing under the Endangered Species Act was submitted to the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS).  The August 25, 2014 letter criticizes the Wisconsin DNR stating that wolf population estimates are faulty and recommends an independent scientific review of the DNR’s data. They urged Fish and Wildlife officials to consider placing the wolf back on the endangered species list before the wolf hunting/trapping season opens in mid-October to allow time for the review and demand the DNR use a standardized format for its population estimates.
