Wolves and Humans: How can we reduce conflict?![]()

Recent science estimates show that the wolf population in Europe is approximately 12,000. What’s important to note here is that with increases in wolf populations, there will also be a rise in concern from people who are anti wolf. Juraj Lukac believes the “hype about wolves is just fake” however “wolves do pose a threat to livestock”, an unfortunate reality political parties sometimes exploit. It’s with this in mind that scientists, wolf-advocates, political figures, and ranchers need to ask themselves “how can we reduce conflict” and build a community that promotes coexistence? ![]()

Creating solutions everyone will support is not easy. But there are solutions! Plenty of non-lethal methods have been proven to decrease predation on livestock. For example, the Cheetah Conservation Fund has been utilizing Guardian Dogs as a way to help Nambian farmers keep their livestock safe from predation. Percentage wise, predation rates have dropped by over 80%! As a species with the ability to manipulate the world around us, we have to be conscientious of the effects our actions have on the environment. As estimated by the World Wildlife Fund “60% of global biodiversity loss” is caused by the meat-industry. Take a look at the bigger picture this article describes. And to emphasize where our focus should be; “How can we reduce conflict?”
