Michigan Action Alert!

It has been a busy week in the Michigan Senate and the coming week will be equally busy in the Michigan House and once again, we need you to take two actions.

As you probably heard, the Michigan Senate passed Senate Bill 1350 designating the wolf a game species and authorizing the first wolf hunting season in modern history. The second wolf bill to pass the Senate was Senate Bill 996 which will pay producers the fair market value of missing livestock due to wolves, essentially on the word of the producer.

Each of these bills will be taken up in different committees and if passed, will go to the full House for a vote and then to the Governor to become law.

You do not need to be a Michigan resident to comment, though it would be helpful if you can mention a connection to Michigan as a tourist or as a strong supporter of Michigan goods (Whirlpool, Amana products, GM, Chrysler, Ford, Kellogg’s, Comstock Fruit). If you live in an area where there are wolves, you should highlight there are ways to co-exist with wolves and why you value wolves on the landscape.

Although HB 5834 was introduced into the House Committee, the Committee will be voting on the Senate version.
