USDA APHIS Wildlife Services Nonlethal Initiative FY2022 Annual Report
May 3, 2024
Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 was the third year Congress allocated funding to the Wildlife Services (WS) program specifically for the implementation and further development of nonlethal methods for reducing certain types of human-wildlife conflict. WS refers to this allocation and the projects and staff that it funds as the WS Nonlethal Initiative. Congress increased the allocation from $1.38 million in FYs 2020 and 2021 to $2.5 million in FY2022 and included nonlethal beaver damage management in the purpose of the allocation. FY2022 Nonlethal Initiative funding increased WS’ nonlethal response to conflicts with predators and beavers in WS’ Western Region and the Great Lakes states.
