Colorado begins work capturing gray wolves in Canadatinyurl.com/2p9v4kk2Canada on Friday as part of the state's wolf reintroduction plan.Up to 15 wolves will be captured in British Columbia and transported to Colorado sometime this year, CPW stated in a press release Saturday. The agency plans to release 10-15 gray wolves per year, for a total of 3-5 years.Expectations:The wolves are expected to increase the likelihood of pairing, breeding and pack formation, according to the wildlife agency.Both Sides:Praised by many for its efforts to bring back a native animal that had been absent from the landscape for decades.Many ranchers are angered by the suspected depredations caused by some of the wolves. Note: updated news speaks about the wolves being brought in this past weekend and Colorado statement “they will not say” where the wolves will be placed. Paws on the ground already exist A news release from CPW said adding more wolves to the existing population in Colorado will increase the likelihood of pairing, breeding and pack formation. When established packs start to defend territories, CPW will be able to better monitor the wolves’ patterns and better collaborate with livestock producers. The state’s wolf reintroduction program fulfills a voter-approved 2020 ballot initiative to reintroduce the animals in Colorado in the name of restoring ecological balance. The measure, Proposition 114, was passed by a narrow 51% to 49% margin,No livestock In B.C. The wolves will come from an area of British Columbia where there is no livestock, so none have repeatedly attacked livestock. CPW will disclose the sex, weight and approximate age of all the wolves relocated to Colorado.In a joint statement, Colorado Republican U.S. Reps. Lauren Boebert of Windsor, Jeff Crank of Colorado Springs, Gabe Evans of Fort Lupton and Jeff Hurd of Grand Junction sought answers from the U.S. Department of Interior on why the Bureau of Land Management has yet to update Resource Management Plans to address the impact wolves have on all parties in the state.Colorado state Sen.
