Conservation. groups recommend Game and Fish phase out state-run elk feedgroundsbit.ly/3MOpN9ZWyoming initiated the elk feeding program when Jackson HoleTown began as the city was situated in the elks normal patternand feeding area.To off- set the loss of public land they began feeding in the winterto substantiate the normal amount of food lost from the Jacksonarea.In a recent letter, six conservation groups submitted a “comprehensive recommendation” to the WGFD detailing the phase-out of 22 feedgrounds by 2028. The groups include Sierra Club Wyoming, Wyoming Wildlife Advocates, Western Watersheds project, Yellowstone to Uintas Connection, Gallatin Wildlife Association and Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance.Recent challenges, including fatal Chronic Wasting Disease, have prompted WGFD to reevaluate how elk are managed. The agency is in ‘Phase II’ of developing its elk feedground management plan, which will determine how elk are managed for the next several decades.Kaycee Prevedel, of Sierra Club spoke about the elk’smovements and that natural migrations have been disrupted.. “but with some good management and some prioritization for wildlife over cattle, there's a lot of forage on public land, forest service land and BLM land that is natural habitat for the elk.”The new management plan will be released by mid-2023and the public is encourages to be involved.Photo: Wyoming Public Media ... Beavers are the sole animal responsible for thecreation of the wetlands..Wyoming is extremely dry and they speak about the beaver as creator of water that is needed in the state as opposed to the area of original research..Untrapped is active in speaking about beavers and their importance and are on the front lines working to preventtrapping of the animals.What is interesting is the quantity of traps and trappingconsidering the state of Wyoming is near to dust in some areas.The whole state is in need of moisture and the logic of killingbeavers leaves one wondering at the negative efficacy thattrapping and killing bring to the land.Beavers are the key players in creating wetlands.Photo: Getty Images ...
