Wolf Conservation Center Introduces Ambassador Wolf Pups!
June 12, 2011
How very exciting. Adam and I were invited to visit the staff at the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY to meet the newest members of their Ambassador Wolf Program.
This program is quite famous throughout the northeast and even Washington DC and beyond as over the years Maggie Howell and staff have visited many schools. colleges and universities with quite the educational agenda . Not only do they put on a most impressive program to educate people about wolves, but also to dispel the many negative myths that surround them. And the star of the show is always the Ambassador Wolf that makes an appearance at every presentation!
With three ambassador wolves passing over the last year, the burden has been left to Atka, a magnificent arctic gray wolf, and he has been “on the road again, and again. Atka is soon to be nine years old and the two newest members of the Ambassador Wolf Program, Alawa and Zephyr,
are just seven weeks old.
I sat down with Rebecca, the Curator at the WCC, along with the two pups, and we talked about the program and the expectations of the program moving forward . Below I have posted a most informative short video as Rebecca
gives great insight into the wolf pups, their behavior at this age, and the energy required from the staff and volunteers in raising them. Not to forget perhaps the most important piece of the puzzle in their care taking, Kai, a beautiful German Shepherd .
